Road Sign Phoenix, Arlington, Agua Caliente, Palomas 1918 Arizona RARE

Description

This very early Arizona porcelain road sign measures approx 20" x 18".  It was put out by the Department of the Interior, US Geological Survey around 1917/1918.  At that time the US Geological Survey erected road signs showing travelers along the Phoenix to Yuma desert route where they could find water.  Online there is an interesting pamphlet with a lot of info on this project dated 1922, "Route to Desert Watering Places".  Link is:  pubs.usgs.gov/wsp/0490c/report.pdf.  On pages 283-285 the pamphlet actually lists the 4 towns on this sign and a bit of info about them that would be important to those traveling in the desert in the middle of nowhere over 100 years ago.  Photos show condition so please zoom in.  Sign does have a bow but can be hung on a wall.  Free priority mail and insured shipping.
