    Description

IDITAROD 2020 DOG SLED RACE on Iditarod National Trail, cover pictorially postmarked from Nome, Alaska on March 9, 2020. Color photo of the dogsled trail printed on cachet #9300 by Alvin Eckert #9964 USCS. Cover franked with 17 cent Dogsled stamp # 2135 and a 55 cent Wild & Scenic Rivers stamp.
This annual race is held on a trail from Anchorage to Nome, covering 1,049 miles. The National Historic Trail was designated in 1978 and BLM was given the task of managing the various government and private sites along this system. The dogsleds race east one year and west the other, using somewhat different routes. See the web sites for information on the race and trail. Some years there was not enough snow to race.
Cover prepared on an envelope without gum on the flap.
Seller has over 200 different covers for National Park, Forest Service and  BLM sites.
